CCS Mission and Background

The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) helps governments and their stakeholders tackle climate change issues by fostering consensus-based actions through collaboration and advanced technical assistance. Since 2004 we have partnered with over 40 U.S. states and territories (as well as Mexican states and Canadian provinces), dozens of government officials, and over 1,500 stakeholders through high level, high visibility projects to address complex and difficult issues related to climate change.

CCS is a public purpose, nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c) (3), partnership organization that was formed in 2004 and is funded by private foundations, donors and governments at the program and project levels. We are headquartered in Washington, DC with over 30 national and field experts across the U.S, Canada and Mexico. Team members have extensive qualifications in environmental science, public policy, economics, management, business, law, education, communications, and finance. Many have experience as public officials, high-level policy advisors, and academic, nonprofit, community, and business leaders.

As the nation’s premiere catalyst for climate policy development and integration at the state and federal levels, we combine expertise in facilitation, communications, technical analysis, and policy design to provide cutting edge, collaborative decision-making. Our work builds high levels of consensus for the implementation of specific policy actions that address multiple public policy objectives. Through our partnerships and support base, CCS has harnessed the creative power of stakeholders and policy makers at every level to develop and implement proven and innovative solutions that consistently yield the highest value for the lowest cost. This is exemplified in the highly integrative policy solutions that CCS has fostered by uniting the best approaches to policy in a common framework for action.
