CCS Supports USAID Launch of Regional Low-Emissions Development Strategies Platform
Tuesday, December 20, 2016
December, Budapest, Hungary. CCS is providing expert assistance to a USAID-supported team to launch an Eastern Europe and Eurasia Platform for Low Emissions Development Strategies (LEDS) to enable knowledge sharing, skill and capacity development, coordination, and facilitation of low-emissions policy efforts in the region. As with similar initiatives in Asia, Africa and Latin America, as well as the LEDS Global Partnership, this platform will bring practitioners from inside and outside governments at all levels to collaborate, learn, and share experience regarding LEDS planning, design, analysis, and implementation of multi objective strategies that cut greenhouse gas emissions while meeting development goals.
CCS’s Program Management Officer, Scott Williamson, joined the work session with funders, government agency officials and staff, and key stakeholders working on economic development and climate change. This new platform supports progression to a low-carbon, prosperous future for countries in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region. CCS is currently supporting implementation of the Ukraine LEDS Action Plan process and Municipal Energy Reform Project in the region and the Guatemala LEDS Action Plan process in Central America. Both programs provide leading templates for adoption by other nations in meeting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement to meet national vision and priorities.
The new platform’s website is www.leds-eep.org. For more information, contact Scott Williamson at firstname.lastname@example.org, or to reach the platform secretariat directly, email email@example.com.
Regional knowledge sharing is critical to expanding and accelerating multi-objective solutions to climate change.
