CCS Issues Special Maryland Power Report With Clean Energy Program Enhancements to Cut Carbon, Grow Jobs

Maryland

In support of Governor O'Malley's newly released Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act and to enable full attainment of its carbon emissions reduction targets, CCS joined forces with the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) and the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) to update and upgrade two key state clean energy programs. The designs of the EmPower Maryland and Maryland Renewable Portfolio Standard programs were enhanced through expert energy and economic modeling to provided significant cuts in carbon emissions while expanding employment and economic growth, as well as energy savings and security. These enhancements and results are detailed in a report released as a complement to the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act Plan released by the governor July 25, 2013 in Baltimore, Maryland. The Special Report, "Enhancements to the EmPower Maryland and Maryland Renewable Portfolio Standard Clean Energy Programs: Pathways To Cut Pollution, Save Cash, Create Jobs, and Grow the State’s Economy" is available as a download from the CCS website. CCS provided similar assistance for the enhancment of transportation and land use programs, available separately. Many states across the US have opportunities to ehance existing programs to provide greater economic, energy, and environmental benefits.
