CCS Supports Low Carbon Financing Programs

West Africa, March, 2019. As part of its Africa program, the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) joined partners in Ghana to support private investment mobilization for low carbon actions across sectors.

CCS moderated a discussion at the Investment Forum at the Africa Climate Week in Accra, Ghana on its Private Investment Mobilization Project, implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Under this project, CCS is piloting a curriculum-based training program in Ghana that integrates low carbon policies development and private investment mobilization in all sectors. CCS is partnering also with Ghana’s Council for Science and Industrial Research -- Institute for Industrial Research, to provide a long-term platform for education, partnerships, and low carbon product development to support expansion of private investment and economic opportunity. The project will be piloted in Asia and Latin America also as part of a global education program.

Tom Peterson of CCS leads a panel discussion with key members of the Ghana Private Investment Mobilization Project during the recent Africa Investor Forum.

Following the Investment Forum, the Ghana local technical team engaged with CCS in an interactive training session on design of financial mechanisms as part of the curriculum. Through a learning by doing approach, the local team members applied concepts and techniques learned to an integrated waste management system pilot case they previously screened and selected.
