University of South Florida, St. Pete GHG Baseline

On Earth Day, April 22nd 2013, University of South Florida St. Petersburg’s Chancellor, Bill Hogarth signed the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). A part of the commitment is to conduct a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory and forecast (referred to in the rest of this report as the GHG “baseline”). The GHG baseline provides a campus’ carbon footprint in terms of metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year (tCO2e/yr). The GHG inventory includes emissions from sources owned or controlled by an institution known as Scope 1 emissions, indirect emissions from purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling known as Scope 2 emissions, and all other indirect emissions upstream and downstream such as commuting by students, faculty and staff to and from campus known as Scope 3 emissions.
