The comprehensive Alaska Climate Change Strategy describes the actual and foreseeable effects of climate warming in Alaska[1], recommends appropriate measures and policies to prepare communities for responding to them, and provides guidance regarding Alaska’s participation in regional and national responses to climate change.
Africa Low Emissions Development Strategies Project
In partnership with the United Nation Environment Program (UNEP), the European Commission, the Africa LEDS Partnership, and the LEDS Global Partnership (LEDS GP), CCS is providing technical training and capacity building, analytical models, systems, and framework development, and learning by doing based technical assistance to governmental and technical institutions in Cameroon, Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of the Congo….
American Reinvestment and Recovery Act Financing
We support implementation of sustainable economic, energy, and environmental systems that generate and require new public and private investment. We work hard to ensure that inadequate funding is not a barrier to state climate plans. We understand how to design and mobilize investment responses for policies and plans in order to fully capture their potential, and to effectively take advantage of limited public resources.
Bangladesh LEDS Planning
CCS has partnered with the LEDS GP (and NREL as co-secretariat) to conduct in-country LEDS-related assistance to Macedonia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Bangladesh. CCS engaged with government leaders, stakeholders, and donors to assess gaps and opportunities to develop a Green Growth Strategy to meet their own development priorities and needs including NDC implementation.
Arkansas Governor’s Commission on Global Warming
With the signing of Act 696 of the Arkansas 86th General Assembly (HB2460), Governor Mike Beebe established the Governor’s Commission on Global Warming. By design, the Commission represents a wide diversity of views and perspectives with members coming from business, industry, environmental groups, and academia. The Governor appoints seventeen of the twenty-one members of the Commission and two members each are appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Arkansas State Senate and by the Speaker of the Arkansas House of Representatives….
Cameroon, Africa LEDS Project
CCS is currently working with government leaders and local technical teams in Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to establish modeling and analytical capacity and tools, specific to each country’s context to inform concrete LEDS policies and their implementation for low emission socio-economic development consistent with Nationally Developed Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. Models and training material are scaled at the regional level.
Economic Stimulus, Recovery, and Climate Mitigation: Policy and Program Opportunities from the States
A review of 20 state climate action plans reveals that dozens of existing federal and hundreds of existing state and local programs could be effective vehicles for economic stimulus funding that would reduce emissions, create jobs, increase energy security and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in secondary economic stimulus and recovery.
China Low Carbon Development Planning Project
Since 2009, the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) has partnered with the Beijing-based Global Environmental Institute (GEI) to support China's advancement of climate change action. In 2011, the U.S. State Department and China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) formally recognized this U.S.-China partnership as an official EcoPartnership.
Florida’s Energy and Climate Change Action Plan
On July 12 and 13, 2007, Governor Charlie Crist hosted “Serve to Preserve: A Florida Summit on Global Climate Change.” The summit brought together leaders of business, government, science and advocacy to examine the risks of global climate change to Florida, and the nation, and to explore the business opportunities that can come from an aggressive response to climate change. At the conclusion of the summit, Governor Crist signed three Executive Orders and two international partnership agreements, adding Florida to the states actively working to address global climate change.
CIOESTE, São Paulo, Brazil
CCS and Winrock are embarking on pathways development support to seven selected regions in in the LAC region that are members of the Under2 Coalition. Through a step-wise approach that involves substantial engagement of public and private sector stakeholders, the works focuses on achieving optimized and transformative pathways to reductions in greenhouse gas emissions consistent with under 2 degrees Celsius climate stabilization levels, and complete, accurate and cost-effective Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV).
Green Recovery Alliance
The Green Recovery Alliance is a partnership between the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) and Climate Group, as Secretariat of the Under2 Coalition. It will provide tailored support to US state governments for planning the acquisition and targeted use of federal funding via the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and other economic recovery funds.
Eastern Europe Regional LEDS Platform
CCS supported the formation of a web-based regional platform for LEDS development, capacity building, knowledge sharing and partnership formation in Eastern Europe in partnership with RTI International.
Electric Vehicles Pilot Program for Trinidad and Tobago
The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) and over 30 energy and infrastructure business leaders, government officials, financiers, policy advisors and academics in Trinidad and Tobago are developing an Electric Vehicles (EVs) pilot project for the country as part of the Private Investment Mobilization (PIM) training program conducted by CCS. The EVs pilot will be designed to result in an actionable and financeable Low Carbon Development (LCD) program in Trinidad and Tobago. Program design and implementation mechanisms will include revenue generating mechanisms and blended finance structures to attract public and private sector investments at scale.
Michigan Climate Mitigation Action Council Climate Action Plan
On November 14, 2007, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm issued Executive Order No. 2007-42 establishing the Michigan Climate Action Council (Council).
The world’s scientific community has concluded with a very high level of confidence that emissions of greenhouse gases are causing the Earth’s climate to warm. Throughout the world, business leaders, governments, and the public are all recognizing the potential impacts of climate change on the economy, environment, and our quality of life. The State of Michigan can play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through encouraging technology innovation and the adoption of policies that provide net economic and environmental benefits.
Kansas Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Reference Case Projections 1990-2025
On March 21, 2008, Governor Kathleen Sebelius issued Executive Order No. 08-03 establishing the Kansas Energy and Environmental Planning Advisory Group (KEEP). The group’s purpose was to identify opportunities for Kansas to respond to the challenge of global climate change, while becoming more energy efficient and energy independent and spurring economic growth.
Kentucky Climate Action Plan Council
The Commonwealth of Kentucky established the Kentucky Climate Action Plan Council (KCAPC) process to identify opportunities for Kentucky to respond to the challenge of global climate change while becoming more energy-efficient, more energy independent, create jobs, and spur economic growth.
Global Green Growth Program
In 2013, CCS acted as a co-author and key expert for the global report "Green Growth in Practice: Lessons from Country Experiences" commissioned by The Global Green Growth Initiative. The report expands awareness and understanding of the techniques and conditions for success needed to advance green growth in unique locations worldwide.
Macroeconomic and Fiscal Assessment of Utility-Scale Solar in Maryland
At the request of a consortium of clean energy advocates, the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) recently completed a macroeconomic and fiscal assessment of increased deployment of utility-scale solar projects in the State of Maryland. The study, entitled “Macroeconomic and Fiscal Impacts of Expanded Utility-Scale Solar Generation in Maryland,” examines proposed policy changes for the siting of new large solar projects in the state and analyzed the potential macroeconomic and fiscal benefits that are likely from accelerating deployment of these projects.
