Net Zero Plan for Rwanda

The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) continues to support the Government of Rwanda and its energy, economic, and climate change needs under the USAID Power Africa East Africa Energy Program (EAEP). Building on recent carbon neutral scenarios modeled by CCS for the power sector with the Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP) tool, a new assessment is being conducted to identify and assess the impact of a portfolio of mitigation strategies across energy and non-energy sectors that can enable Rwanda to achieve its net zero goal by 2050 through active implementation programs.

CCS will deploy an integrated modeling framework and multi-objective approach in policy and economic planning and analysis focused on the impact of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and costs and savings resulting from full implementation of the net zero scenario. For a discussion around this approach, please read our blog “Informing the Race to Net Zero and see related studies conducted by CCS in Rwanda and other nations on our website.
