The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) is pleased to announce completion of the Decarbonization Pathway for Mato Grosso, Brazil, which offers actionable steps towards the state race to net zero by mid-century. The Pathway is a result of intensive collaboration and assessment with the government and local stakeholders supported by international expertise and assistance from CCS, Winrock International, The Climate Group and GCF Task Force. Over 60 participants joined the final webinar on April 28 to review eleven key Decarbonization actions in the agriculture, forestry and other land use sectors which reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, enable sustainable local economic development and help achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) is pleased to announce completion of the Decarbonization Pathway Project for Sao Paulo in its race to mid-century climate neutrality following intensive collaboration and assessment with the government and local stakeholders supported by international expertise and assistance from CCS, Winrock International, The Climate Group, WWF and GCF Task Force. Over 80 participants joined the final webinar on April 25, 2021 to review twelve Carbon Neutral Pathway actions developed to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% percent from baseline conditions by 2050, and to chart a course for further actions to achieve long-term net-zero emissions goals and short-term green economic recovery.

On March 25, the State of Querétaro, Mexico, approved its 2021-2050 State Climate Change Plan (Programa Estatal de Acción ante el Cambio Climático de Querétaro - PEACC) including priority actions that support its Decarbonization Pathway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). Design of the Decarbonization Pathway process, its development, and analysis of GHG and economic impacts were led by the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS), Winrock International and The Climate Group as part of the Under 2 Coalition Climate Pathway Project funded by NCIFI (Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative).

The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) and over 30 energy and infrastructure business leaders, government officials, financiers, policy advisors and academics in Trinidad and Tobago are developing an Electric Vehicles (EVs) pilot project for the country as part of the Private Investment Mobilization (PIM) training program conducted by CCS. The EVs pilot will be designed to result in an actionable and financeable Low Carbon Development (LCD) program in Trinidad and Tobago. Program design and implementation mechanisms will include revenue generating mechanisms and blended finance structures to attract public and private sector investments at scale.

DECEMBER 2020. GUATEMALA CITY. The Guatemala Low Emission Development Strategy Plan (the LEDS Plan) developed by the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) and RTI International under the USAID/Guatemala Low Emission Development Project is at the frontline of the country’s strategy to achieve the country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets and guide climate smart investments in the next several years.

The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) is continuing weekly capacity-building sessions and resource assessment activities with staff of the Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and the Rwanda Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA) as part of the Resource Study for Electricity Generation Sources project, launched in May of this year, under the USAID funded Power Africa East Africa Energy Program. The purpose of the Project is to identify the potential for a full suite of priority energy resources in Rwanda to meet growing national and local energy needs while also addressing other priorities, such as environmental impacts and investment, and to provide a training curriculum with analysis tools to support continuous future updates by REG and stakeholders.

QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO. The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) and partners recently launched the fourth of seven regional programs through the Under 2 Coalition in Central and South America.

At the request of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network and Climate Xchange, The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) conducted a policy review of Maryland’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Act: 2019 GGRA Draft Plan (Draft Plan) released by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) in October 2019.

QUERETARO, MEXICO. On November 19-21, 2019, The Center for Climate Strategies (CCS), Winrock International and The Climate Group launched the first of seven regional long-term decarbonization pathways processes in Central and South America.
