October 26, 2021. Tom Peterson of the Center for Climate Strategies (CCS) is honored to have been designated as an expert speaker on the Subsidiary Body for Science and Technical Assistance (SBSTA) Technical expert meeting on Practical Approaches to Economic Diversification and Transformation in preparation for the upcoming COP 26 climate summit in Glasgow.

CCS President Tom Peterson Presents at SBSTA Technical Panel

The event provided an informal space for experts from CCS, the World Bank, the European Commission DG CLIMA, and Oxford Institute for Energy Studies to discuss country driven strategies and best practices on economic diversification and transformation and its relationship with transformation scale climate action. CCS focused on basic concepts, techniques, and case-based success stories implementing low greenhouse gas emission policies and strategies that also achieve equitable economic development and short-term recovery. This body of work is designed to help Parties in implementation of their work plan activities in the next session of the SBSTA and SBI towards a successful COP 26 in November 2021.

Today, governments at all levels can access the necessary tools, templates, and technical assistance needed to integrate economic, equity, and environmental goals to support collaboration and partnership with a full suite of government agencies and stakeholders. Results show that by doing so, they can expand the ambition and willpower needed for actual implementation of new approaches in all economic sectors.

Since its inception in 2004, CCS has specialized in planning and engagement through stakeholder-based inclusion and consensus building with governments to identify fact-based, inclusive, multi-objective solutions to climate change at the subnational and national levels in the US and other nations. Based on this work, CCS has developed and tested practical, user-friendly tools and templates for planning, assessment, and implementation of climate actions through a wide range of projects in developed and developing economies, including research publications in the peer review environment to validate their use and enable further technical development.
